Sausage Cheddar Biscuits
What is better than flaky, buttery biscuits loaded with sausage and cheddar cheese served warm for breakfast? These homemade sausage cheddar biscuits are the perfect combination of texture and flavor. They are perfect for anytime of the day; serve them for breakfast, brunch, or a side with dinner.

Ingredients
- 7 tbsp SACO Cultured Buttermilk Blend
- 1 ¾ cups water
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ½ sticks butter cold
- 2 tbsp chives chopped
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook breakfast sausage. Use a spoon or spatula to break the sausage into smaller pieces as it cooks. Continue cooking until brown.
- Strain sausage and place onto a paper towel lined plate to cool.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Grate the cold butter and place into the freezer while you mix together the dry ingredients.
- In a large bowl, mix together buttermilk powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add in cooled sausage, cheddar cheese, and chives. Stir until well combined.Â
- Stir in cold shredded butter and make a well in the center of the mixture.Â
- Pour in water, and give a few stirs until well combined into a soft dough. Do not over mix.Â
- Shape into 12 dough balls (biscuits) and arrange on the baking sheet.Â
- Brush each biscuit with melted butter.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.Â
- Serve warm.
